The short answer
Your miner is still mining for you. The yellow banner comes from a check in AxeOS, the firmware on the Bitaxe. The check reads the draft block your pool sends and looks for your address among the payouts. It was built for solo pools, where your address must be in every block. On a pool that pays many miners, like DirectPool, a small miner is often not in the draft block yet, and the banner appears even though nothing is wrong.
To hide it, open the miner's Pool settings, show the advanced options and uncheck Decode Coinbase Tx. To see what the pool owes you, paste your address on the DirectPool verify page or in "Your miner" on the home page.
What does AxeOS check?
A pool keeps sending your miner new jobs. Part of each job is the coinbase transaction, the first transaction of the block your miner is trying to find. The coinbase pays the block reward, and its outputs are the list of addresses that block would pay.
Since version 2.13.0, AxeOS decodes that coinbase. It shows the payout addresses on the dashboard, and it compares them with the Bitcoin address you typed as the username in the pool settings. Two warnings can come out of that comparison:
| Banner | What AxeOS found |
|---|---|
| You don't have a share in the mining reward | Your address is not in any output of the current job. |
| Your share of the mining reward is only X% | Your address is in the outputs, but it gets less than 95% of the reward. |
Versions 2.13.0 and 2.13.1 said "coinbase reward" instead of "mining reward". The meaning is the same.
Why does the check exist?
On a solo pool, the block pays the miner who finds it. If you mine solo and your address is not in the coinbase, a block found by your machine would pay someone else. That can happen with a typo in the address, a pool set up to pay itself, or a dishonest pool. For solo miners the banner is a useful alarm.
The AxeOS developers say so themselves: the warning is for people who think they mine solo when the block is not paying their address. For pools that pay out another way, they recommend turning off Decode Coinbase Tx (ESP-Miner discussion 1647).
Why do you see it on DirectPool?
DirectPool is a shared PPLNS pool. When it finds a block, the block itself pays every miner from the last 7 days of shares, each in its own output of the coinbase. There is no pool wallet. To keep blocks from filling up with tiny outputs, two rules decide who appears in the coinbase:
- Minimum payout of 10,000 sats. If the pool owes your address less than that, the amount is recorded as a balance and added to your next part of a block. A later block pays it once it reaches the minimum.
- Up to 250 payout addresses per block. The largest amounts owed are paid first.
The part of a small miner, such as a Bitaxe or a NerdMiner, is usually below 10,000 sats for a single block. So the job your miner receives does not include your address, and AxeOS shows "You don't have a share in the mining reward". Once your recorded balance reaches the minimum, your address appears in the coinbase and the banner usually changes to "Your share of the mining reward is only X%", because the rest of the block pays other miners and the 1% fee. Both messages are normal on a shared pool.
If nobody is owed the minimum when a block is found, DirectPool still pays the largest amounts owed, so a block is never left unpaid.
How can you check that you are being credited?
- Open the verify page and paste your Bitcoin address. It shows the payout list written into the next block. If your address is not in it yet, the page says so and shows your recorded balance.
- On the home page, enter the same address in "Your miner". You see each machine's hashrate, its last share and your unpaid balance.
- On the Who's mining page, find your shortened address among the miners of the last 24 hours.
If your miner shows accepted shares and your address appears on these pages, your work is counted. The banner does not change that.
How do you turn the banner off?
1. Open the Pool settings
Type your Bitaxe's IP address into a browser on the same network to open AxeOS, then go to Pool.
2. Show the advanced options
Open the advanced options of the pool you mine on. Your stratum URL, username and password stay as they are.
3. Uncheck Decode Coinbase Tx
Its tooltip says it shows the payout addresses and should be turned off on chains other than Bitcoin. With it off, AxeOS stops reading the coinbase and the banner goes away. Mining, shares and payouts are not affected.
4. Save
Save the settings. If the banner is still there, restart the miner from AxeOS.
In September 2026 the AxeOS code gained a separate Share Warning checkbox, whose tooltip says to disable it "for pools that pay miners directly through many coinbase outputs" (pull request 1678). It was not in a released version yet when this guide was written; the latest release was 2.15.3. When your firmware has it, uncheck Share Warning instead and keep the coinbase decoding on, so the dashboard still lists the payouts.
When is the banner a real problem?
Take the banner seriously when you mine solo, for example on DirectPool's Bitcoin Cash solo pool or any Bitcoin solo pool. Then your address should be in the coinbase of every job. If it is not:
- Compare the username in the miner with your wallet address, character by character. Copy and paste it rather than typing it.
- Check that the address belongs to the right coin: a Bitcoin address for a Bitcoin pool, a Bitcoin Cash address for a Bitcoin Cash pool.
- Check that you entered the pool you meant to use, with the right port.
Careful: a solo pool that never puts your address in the coinbase cannot pay you if your miner finds a block. Stop mining there until you know why.
What about Bitcoin Cash?
The AxeOS check is written for Bitcoin addresses. A Bitcoin Cash address in the bitcoincash:q… format is not one, so AxeOS cannot match it against the coinbase, and its tooltip asks you to turn off Decode Coinbase Tx when you mine a chain other than Bitcoin. On DirectPool's Bitcoin Cash solo pool the block pays your address directly. On the Bitcoin Cash shared pool the same rules as on Bitcoin apply: a 10,000 sat minimum, with smaller amounts carried to a later block, and up to 200 addresses per block. You can check both by entering your address in "Your miner" on their pages.
Do other pools show it too?
Yes. AxeOS shows the banner on any pool whose coinbase does not pay your address. That includes most large pools, which pay out from their own wallet instead of from the block. Bitaxe owners reported the banner on several pools right after updating to 2.13 (issue 1570). On those pools the coinbase pays the pool's wallet, which then sends you your earnings. On DirectPool the coinbase pays miners directly, so once your balance reaches the minimum you can see your payout in the block itself.
